For many Christians, the special moments are the big ones: the extravagant marriage proposals, the come-to-Jesus moments, the job acceptances. But in Church of the Small Things, Melanie Shankle honestly and hilariously highlights the significance of everyday moments. After all, the wedding seems less important when compared to the marriage. The birth of a child can’t compare to the years of raising one.

Reading this book is like settling in for a cup of coffee with Melanie Shankle. She shares her own stories of struggling through everyday life. She is hysterically honest when it comes to vulnerability. Through a series of stories about her experiences as a daughter, wife, and mother, Melanie Shankle relates to her readers in a way only someone who has waged war on a white couch can.
At the heart of this book, Shankle reminds readers that God uses “little” moments to make a big difference. Rarely does someone realize when she is making a monumental difference in another’s life. Even something as small as packing lunch for the family can be an immense service for God. Melanie Shankle teaches exactly how to find the treasures buried deep within the mundane.
