Everyone is looking for ways to squeeze a little more out of their money. That’s why editors love this kind of article; they have a wide audience. If you have good advice on how to make, save, and invest money, you’ve got a great article waiting to be written.
People want to know how to have fun while saving money. If you can offer them that, you’ll have readers. Think up some fun, at-home activities to share with groups, families, kids, and couples. Or look into local events and businesses that you can let people know about. There are all sorts of entertainment articles that haven’t been written yet.
Physical fitness is really trending right now. People want to learn how to live longer and look better. Research different diets, workouts, and other healthy habits (and maybe even test some out). If you find something quick and simple, you’ve got a good start to your article.
4. Mental Health
As mental health becomes a bigger concern, mental health articles become more important. If you have experience with a mental illness, share some tips on coping or recovering. Even if you are unfamiliar with mental illnesses, you can talk about how to deal with stress or achieve personal acceptance.
Lifestyle articles can be almost anything you want them to be. Do you spend a lot of time in the workplace? Write about how to make the office run smoothly. Do you stay at home all day? Share your tips for keeping a clean house. Do you like listening to podcasts? Create a list of your favorites. Lifestyle articles are fun to read; have fun writing them, too. (I personally love the lifestyle articles at Verily Magazine)
Now, I have to put a little disclaimer in here. I’m not guaranteeing that your article will get published. If you submit an article about how to make homemade maracas to, say, a fishing magazine, you’re probably not going find publishing success. Not every editor will love these articles, but all of these articles have an editor who will love them.
If anything on this list caught your eye, try writing the article and see what you come up with! When you’re ready to publish, pick up the most recent edition of Writer’s Market to find magazines and journals to submit to.
